Government Internet Media

Financial report for the MTV crowd.

Don’t ask me how I run across these things, but I was entertained by this guy’s video. It’s about Canadian government politics but an interesting presentation.

Now this is a financial report I could watch!

He reminds me of Rick Moranis, come to think of it he’s from Canada too.

3D space built from travel photos

Interesting project at Microsoft to “explore photo collections in 3D.” Program can scan personal photos or even photos shared on the web to build a navigable 3D space. One of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while!

Political Correctness hides Disney Classic in vault.

song_of_the_south_poster.jpg
The 1948 motion picture “Song of the South,” has been in hibernation since a theatrical re-release in 1986. Although fans have clamored for a DVD release, it’s themes and subject matter have kept it in the vault, despite the opportunity for a 60th anniversary release this past year. Current Disney CEO Robert Iger made comments at a recent stockholders meeting that the movie may see the light of day in the future. Time is ticking, the movie goes into the public domain in the year 2039.

M. Night Shyamalan, in the company of doctors.

Ran across this interesting trivia on director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, The Village):

Not only are his parents doctors, but so is his wife and his nine other siblings. They all hold MD or Ph.D titles.

Hitler Speaks

Interesting documentary on Hitler’s home movies. “Now, leading edge lip reading software has enabled German experts to re-voice these films and provide us with a chilling insight into Hitlers private world.”

One thing revealed in the documentary that I did not know was the fact that there were no recordings of Hitler’s normal speaking voice until the discovery of a secret recording of Hitler speaking with the king of Finland. This is the only recording of his normal speaking voice, all others are his public speaking rants.

Crayon sculptures

Here’s an interesting idea, miniature sculptures out of crayons. I’d like to see how this is accomplished.

Fashion photography and Real Life.

This little movie illustrates the fantasy that is fashion photography. The old adage, “Don’t believe everything you read,” should be expanded to include “see and hear.”

All Your Base Are Belong to Us!

aybabtu.pngFor some reason I was reminded of this video, must have spotted a reference to it again. It’s one of those internet phenomena, virally transmitted throughout cyberspace.

For those who’ve never heard of it, it was an opening to a poorly translated Sega Genesis video game from way back in the 80’s. The phrase “All Your Base Are Belong to Us” was picked up as particularly funny and inserted into various still images, thus a video with music was created with the opening of the game and these images. I still find it pretty funny.

I just discovered a new one that’s called Zero Wing Rhapsody, a parody of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody on the Official All Your Base web site.

What do you get when you cross Nazis and Bing Crosby? Answer: Audiotape.

Reading an industry mag the other day this one opening paragraph blew me away. So much in just a few sentences, it really intrigued me. Here it is:

At this year’s NAB, I finally heard the bugle sounding “Taps” for tape, that thin ribbon of oxide-coated polyester first descended from Nazi-era paper audiotape used to broadcast German propaganda; then ferreted in a duffel bag by an American serviceman after the fall of Berlin to an LA company called Ampex, then re-engineered in 1948 with Bing Crosby’s money as a U.S. radio recording medium, and then transformed by means of rotary recording into a TV recording medium by NAB 1956, again with Der Bingle’s loot.
